Last week we discussed storage for all of our precious scraps of paper. This week I would like to look at all the things we can do with those scraps. Something more than just cutting them into small shapes and borders. I love the shapes and borders, but what I love more is to work with the negative image you are left with after you cut out your desired shape. I love to work with negatives such as the left overs from paper punches, Nestabilities and Cricut cut outs. There are so many fantastic things you can make with negatives. I love the challenge of finding a unique way to use them up. It's almost like getting two for one if you find a way to use them.
I thought I would share this card I made with a negative from the Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge available with the Cricut Expression at Die Cuts R Us. Once I saw how beautiful this negative looked I couldn't bear to trash it. The card itself is made from clear acetate. I placed a few of the hearts I was originally cutting out for another project on the front. I used glue dots to adhere the negative to the front sheet of acetate, only along the inside crease. I then did the same to the patterned paper, but to the back piece of acetate.
I added a ribbon and some buttons to the front to hide the glue dots, because they show up on acetate. I like the way lover boy, be mine and XOXO show through the hearts. I was actually more pleased with the card I made with the left over negative than I was with the original design idea for the hearts!
I hope this inspires you to think outside the box and see what can me made from negative images. I'm sure there must be more negative items out there too, I just can't think of them. Can you think of any other type of negatives that could be used creatively? I would love to hear your ideas, please share them with us.
