Tutorial - Altered Planner

At the beginning of the school year, I always loved shopping for my notebooks and planners. It was the highlight of the school year. So with a new school year fast approaching, I wanted to give you some ideas on how to alter a planner for your tween or teen....so she (or he) can have their own personalized product.

First of all, I bought a school year planner. It doesn't have to be fancy, because remember, you are going to personalize it:

Then I went to work on stamping. I wanted to stamp my months to add them to the edges of the planner, tabs for the months. To do this, I used my Just Rite Stamps. This set is called Calendar, Borders & Centers. Here's a picture:

A great set of stamps for any crafter. You can purchase them at Die Cuts R Us for a marked down price of $11.96 right now!

Here's a picture of all the tabs in place:

I knew my planner needed a bookmark, so I added a piece of ribbon. I simply glued this to the last page of my planner so it would flip over the top and mark the page:

My planner had a place for an ink pen and what girl doesn't love a trendy pen. So I made one. I took green ribbon and wrapped it around the pen, to the lid to create the look of a flower stem:

Then I added some flowers and a button to hide the pen's lid:

I wanted to add a monogram to the front of my planner. I did this by using my Cricut & the Storybook Cartridge. I cut the frame and the letter out, then ran the frame thru my Cuttlebug & Swiss Dots folder. I used the inverted side of the embossing and inked my edges:

I also added paper to the top of my planner, cut to fit the cover:

Such a simple project! Easy and affordable and cute!
The Calendar, Border and Centers Just Rite Stamps were such an inspiration, I just had to make something with them. Whether you are a cardmaker or a scrapbooker, this set is a must have. If you are feeling inspired to make your own planner, leave me the link to your finished product! I'd love to see it!
And tune in tomorrow for a new challenge & giveaway!

Wow Amber, that is such a beautiful planner. Great ideas all throughout, nifty ideas on the bookmark and pen. I love how the months act as tabs on the side. You always make something special, thanks for sharing.

You took a plain old planner and turned it into a "must have", 1st day of school, 1 of a kind, personal planner. Believe me, without a planner in school you are soooooooooo lost.
Great job. Beautiful colors.

What a cute and very practical craft! If my daughter, Anna sees this, she's going to make me put one together for her. The planner she has is kind of generic. Really like the way you used the stamps to create tabs...very clever.

Thanks Amber!
