Inspiration: Scrap that idea!

Hello friends and happy Thursday!
It's Joni here to share some fun little projects you can make with scraps. Yes, scraps! I know we all have such a hard time throwing these odd sized pieces away, here are some samples of what I like to do with my ever-growing stash.

One of the easiest ways to use up scraps is by making 3x3 note cards with leftover cardstock and designer papers. Since this is a smaller canvas to work with, the possibilities are endless and quite effortless too.

Here are random scraps from the Be Loved and Sugar Rush collection paired with Prism cardstock. I have created quite a mishmosh set using scrap pieces of ribbon and fun little embellishments. These are great for a quick little teacher's gift!

Another fun example is using those small scrap pieces as a focal point.

My little faux quilt card was made by punching out the squares and then stitching them together. Odd shaped cards like these are perfect to throw into a package or tie to a gift, making them all the more easier to create.

As for those little tiny scraps that are odd shaped or just not enough to cover a card area, they make great whimsical flowers. There are wonderful tutorials on these flowers everywhere, but here is the basic starting point:

You can punch out, die cut, or even hand cut 3-5 shapes. Secure them with a brad, and then roughen up the layers up a bit by scrunching and folding them towards the center. You can even distress them using the Tim Holtz distresser to give it more of a shabby chic look.
Here is one made with a small circle:

And ones with a floral shape (the leaves were also cut out from scraps):

Here is the last card in its entirety:

Since I didn't have enough of that wonderful Basic Grey designer paper for a full size card, I turned it into a mini pocket by stitching it to cardstock. And why not top the note card with another scrap? Simply cut out a circle and fold it in half, secure it with adhesive, a brad, or a staple as I have done here.
And finally, for those daughters and "girly" girls who love wearing fun hair accessories, here is an idea for scraps of ribbon:

Simply tie pieces around an elastic rubber band and, once it is nice and full, add a dab of hot glue to each knotted area to prevent unraveling. Shabby and chic indeed!

Remember, there are no rules when it comes to using up scraps. There is no need for formality, a perfect A2 card, or standard size measurements, anything goes!
All of My Mind's Eye designer papers used for these projects can be found here at the DCRU store, as well as the Basic Grey Sugar Rush collection here and the wonderful Prism cardstock here. You can also get some wonderful ribbon, buttons, and other adorable embellishments at a one-stop shop over at DCRU.

I hope you've enjoyed today's posting, now go and scrap that idea!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone.

♥ and Aloha,
~*Joni

I am in love with the card that you made. I love the colors, how you put the flowers together and also how this card is different then most on how you open it. Really nice job! XOXO, Julie. :0)
